It's About People Not Politics
I believe the answer to many of the financial issues facing our state and local government is not to increase taxes or create new ways to tax our citizens, but to control and cut unnecessary spending.
As a member of the Assembly, I would enforce a spending cap and work diligently to ensure a balanced budget. Every day, we as Alaskans work hard to earn money for our families, we plan and budget to live within our means, we try to spend our money wisely and get the most out of every dollar. Why shouldn’t our government do the same?
If elected, I will give my best effort to make sure that our budget is balanced, that our community is adequately protected with the presence of first responders and to ensure economic growth opportunity for our local businesses. This is not about politics, it’s about the people and families in our community. We encourage our children to abide by the core principles of financial responsibility, love of community, state and country, and watching out for our neighbors.
I want Eagle River and Chugiak to be the best place to live, work and play for your family and mine.

Meet John Brassell On a more personal note
I had dreamed of calling Alaska “home” for many years. After coming to this amazing state in 1994 to visit my wife’s family in Fairbanks, I was determined that I was going to be a part of the vast beauty and pristine surroundings.
We lived in Fairbanks for several summers while we took time away from our educational pursuits in the lower 48. Vacationing in Alaska became commonplace over the years and then in 2010 our family moved back to Alaska permanently!
My wife and I both served in the U.S. Air Force and were honorably discharged after our enlistment was complete. Since we are both veterans we understand the benefits as well as the hardships faced by those who have served our country. I was a recipient of the U.S. Air Force Outstanding Unit Award Medal for my time served in Bosnia during the Croatian Conflict.
My education began after my military service with a Bachelor of Science in Interpersonal and Organizational Communication from Toccoa Falls College. I continued with my education and earned a Master’s degree in Business Management and a Master’s degree in Accounting from Liberty University. I have been able to use my education to successfully work in the areas of business development and healthcare, and I currently hold the position of Vice President of Benefits, Account Executive for a local brokerage firm in Anchorage.
On a more personal note, my wife Renee and I have been married for 23 years and we have six amazing children. We enjoy being outdoors and we share plenty of activities such as fishing, camping, skiing, hiking, and shooting at the gun range. Our family is active in our local church and our strong Christian values are demonstrated on a daily basis. Strong moral conduct is apparent in our daily lives and integrity is of utmost importance in our home.
